ABOUT THE BOOK
Influenced by Eugene Richards' 1972 photographic essay, “ Dorchester Days” a social document of his hometown of Dorchester, Massachusetts. I began the B.I.R.D Street PROJECT, this is an acronym for; Building individuals Reconstructing Dorchester. I live on this street in the Dorchester neighborhood, and I am also proud to call Boston my hometown. The community is filled with lots of ethnicity and stories to share. At the same time I noticed people are being displaced from their communities while neighborhood assets and buildings are being destroyed and forgotten. This is a project about building community relationships and creating change by getting to know one another. For over a decade Uphams Corner has been transitioning into a more vibrant place with arts, business and neighborhood culture at its focus. By building up individuals we can imagine and plan for a reconstruction of Dorchester that mirrors the importance of the community.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
This project depicts images of people and places that are undiscovered and unnoticed in Dorchester. This photography series is to show the greatness of the people, places and things that are integral and add value to the community within Dorchester. My vision is to help motivate more youth leadership in the community through engagement and storytelling. As an artist & resident I plan boost community leadership and resident participation through the arts & celebrating neighborhood assets.
